Jornal O Globo reported the news on Sunday. Silva (33-6, 1NC MMA, 16-2, 1NC UFC) was considered the greatest mixed martial arts competitor in the world for a long time, and went 16-0 inside the UFC before losing twice in a row to Chris Weidman and then failing a post fight drug test after defeating Nick Diaz. "The Spider" hasn't looked the same since his loss to Weidman and at 40 years old, it is unlikely he will ever return to his best. UFC 126, February 5 2011, Vitor Belfort attempted to prevent Silva making his eighth title defence, but was unsuccessful. Silva landed a front kick to the chin of Belfort and knocked "The Phenom" out. Silva was the first man to use the front kick to the face correctly and finish a fight that way. Belfort (25-11 MMA, 13-7 UFC) made his UFC debut in 1997 and is still at the top of the sport. Belfort is 4-1 in his last five with his only loss coming to UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman. Belfort was riding a three fight win streak with three head kick knockouts before losing to Weidman and returned to the cage after that loss, and knocked out Dan Henderson in just over two minutes. UFC 197 takes place on March 5 in the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
