The fight was announced on Tuesday night on FOX Sports Live. Rothwell (35-9 MMA, 5-3 UFC) is currently riding a three fight win streak with stoppage wins over Brandon Vera, Alistair Overeem and Matt Mitrione. Rothwell is currently ranked #8 in the heavyweight division and is in the mix for a title shot once Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum fight*. Rothwell has been very vocal about his intentions to capture the heavyweight title and may well get the chance to do so if he beats Barnett. Barnett (34-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has been in the game since 1997 and is still going strong. 'Warmaster' is 2-1 since rejoining the UFC after picking up a first round stoppage against Frank Mir before losing in the first round to Travis Browne and more recently taking home a decision victory against hard hitter Roy Nelson. Barnett is now 38-years-old and will be looking to make one more run for the title when he faces Ben Rothwell. UFC on FOX 18 takes place on Jan. 30 inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The card is headlined by a pivotal light heavyweight fight between #2 ranked Anthony Johnson and #4 ranked Ryan Bader. --- *No date is set for that fight yet.
