According to Steven Marrocco of MMAjunkie, Cormier met with the UFC and "emerged with a new eight-fight contract that’s made him ‘very, very happy." Marrocco stated that Cormier did not say how much he would earn from the contract, but did say that Cormier is unsure if he will finish all eight fights on his contract because of his age (36). Cormier (17-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) last fought Alexander Gustafsson in a gruelling five round fight and won a narrow split decision, the victory was Cormier's first title defense after he claimed the interim belt against Anthony Johnson and former champ Jon Jones was suspended. Jones is likely to be Cormier's next opponent.
