The fight was announced on Wednesday's edition of UFC Tonight. Aldo (25-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) became the UFC Featherweight Champion when WEC came to a close, and was extremely successful in defending the belt. The Brazilian took home decision victories over Mark Hominick and Kenny Florian in his first two UFC bouts before picking up his first finish with a knockout victory over Chad Mendes at UFC 142. Aldo then faced Edgar, the two men took part in a back and forth contest which Aldo eventually won by decision. Aldo then took home victories over Chan Sung Jung, Ricardo Lamas and Chad Mendes again, before coming up against current reigning Featherweight Champion,  Conor McGregor. Aldo was knocked out cold in just 13-seconds and his reign was over just like that. The 29-year-old is looking to make the first step on the journey to facing McGregor again, and getting redemption, as well as the title. Edgar (20-4-1 MMA, 14-4-1 UFC) is a former lightweight champion but after losing the title, and the rematch to Benson Henderson, Edgar decided it was time to do what many people thought he should have done sooner, move down to featherweight. Edgar faced stiff opposition in his first outing, but put Aldo through one of his toughest fights, only to lose a narrow decision. Since the loss, Edgar has never looked better. He rebounded from the loss with a convincing decision victory over Charles Oliviera before dominating, and stopping BJ Penn in July of 2014. After that bout, "The Answer" faced Cub Swanson and in perhaps one of his most impressive performances to date, shut Swanson down and dominated the fight before eventually submitting Swanson in the fifth round. Edgar then faced Urijah Faber in the Philippines and took home a decision victory. Most recently, Edgar faced what many thought would be one of his toughest tests in Chad Mendes, but the New Jersey native starched Mendes in just two minutes and 28 seconds. UFC 200 takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016. The event is set to be headlined by a Welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
