Fox Sports announced that Michael MacDonald will make his long-awaited return against Masenori Kanehara in a bantamweight bout at UFC 195. Dave Sholler confirmed the news Monday evening via Twitter. The bout will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 2nd, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Michael McDonald (16-3) had been sidelined for nearly two years due to injures, not having fought since December of 2013. In this last outing, he was submitted in the second round by UFC and WEC veteran Urijah Faber. McDonald's only two losses have come to former UFC Bantamweight champion Renan Barao in 2013 and Cole Escovedo in 2009. Despite these two losses, McDonald holds sixteen victories with nine by way of knockout and five by way of submission; he also stands with a record of 5-2 inside the UFC. The UFC Rankings still have McDonald ranked at eight in the bantamweight division, ahead of notables such as John Lineker, Takeya Mizugaki, and Eddie Wineland. Masanori Kanehara (25-12-5) is currently one of Japan's most prominent mixed martial artists. His last fight came against Rani Yahya in July of 2015, where he lost by split decision in a closely contested bout. One fight before that he made his UFC debut, winning an impressive decision over Alex Caceres. Kanehara holds notable decision victories over Chan Sung Jung, Norifumi Yamamoto, and Michihiro Omigawa. He also has only lost two fights since August of 2011, winning by TKO or submission in five of his seven victories. UFC 195 takes place on January 2nd, 2015 and will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between current champion Robbie Lawler and challenger Carlos Condit.
