Dana White revealed that Luke Rockhold would make the first defence of his UFC Middleweight Championship in a rematch against Chris Weidman in July at UFC 199. The UFC President revealed the news on Garbage Time. Luke Rockhold (15-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was unsuccessful in his UFC debut as he was knocked out by Vitor Belfort, but rebounded with a five fight win streak and a middleweight title. Rockhold stopped Costas Phillipou with a body kick in his second UFC fight before submitting Tim Boetsch at UFC 172. The 31-year-old then picked up submission victories over Michael Bisping and Lyoto Machida before fighting for the middleweight strap. Rockhold fought Weidman in the co-main event of UFC 194 and ultimately won via TKO in the fourth round after a gruelling affair which he dominated. Weidman (13-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) made his UFC debut when he was only 4-0 and defeated Allesio Sakara by decision. He then went on to submit Jesse Bongfeldt and Tom Lawlor before taking a decision victory over BJJ ace Demian Maia. Following his victory over Mark Munoz the New York native was given a title shot against the long time middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Weidman shocked the world and knocked out Silva in the second round. Silva was given an immediate rematch but Weidman still managed to pick up a victory, after checking a leg kick, and ultimately, breaking Silva's leg. Weidman next fought Lyoto Machida and took home a narrow decision victory over the Brazilian in a back and forth fight of the year contender. Following his victory over Machida, Weidman stopped Vitor Belfort in the very first round. Then he fought Luke Rockhold, and lost in a very exciting fight which showed just how tough Weidman was. UFC 199 takes place in July, no exact date, venue or fight card has been announced as of yet.
